Certification
There are a number of systems that seek to ensure that forests are
properly managed, so that important wildlife habitats are not destroyed
and timber is legally logged. Some systems also seek to prevent
genetically modified trees being used and try to ensure that the
rights of indigenous peoples are respected. The material produced
is tracked from the certified forests to the customer using the
Chain of Custody system, so that consumers can be certain they are
only using material from approved sources. |
